What hardware/software do I need to run FxFactory?

How do I install FxFactory?

Download the "FxFactory.dmg" file to your desktop.

If you are using the Safari web browser, the disk image will be handled for you automatically, mounting the FxFactory installation disk on your desktop.

If you are using other web browsers (e.g. Firefox) please double-click the "FxFactory.dmg" file in order to mount the installation disk on your desktop.

To install FxFactory, locate and double-click the following program on the installation disk:

How do I install FxFactory on a computer without an Internet connection?

You will need a second computer with Internet access to download FxFactory. Once the download is complete, you have two options:

  1. Copy the "FxFactory.dmg" file to an external hard drive. Connect the external drive to the computer without internet access. Double-click the "FxFactory.dmg" file to mount and access the FxFactory installer.
  2. Launch the "Disk Utility" program on the computer where you completed the download. Click the "Burn" button on the program's toolbar and select the "FxFactory.dmg" file. When a new window with disc-burning options appears, insert a writable (empty) CD-R and click the "Burn" button. Once the disc has been burned and ejected, insert it in the computer with no Internet access. The "FxFactory" installation disc will appear on the desktop.

In addition to the plug-ins, the zero-coding plug-in development features of FxFactory Pro allow you to tweak existing effects and create brand new effects using Quartz Composer.

How do I register my copy of FxFactory Pro?

If you have already installed FxFactory and purchased a license to FxFactory Pro, launch the FxFactory application (located in the Applications folder):

If the registration window appears, click the "Register" button. (If the registration window does not appear, skip to the next section below.)

In the next panel, enter the registration code that you received via email upon completing your order from our online store. (If you purchased a retail, boxed copy of FxFactory Pro you may find the registration code printed inside the case)

Once you have entered the registration code in the appropriate box, the "Register" button will become active:

Click the "Register" button to complete the registration process.

What If the registration window does not appear when I first launch FxFactory?


The process described above may not work if you have previously registered FxFactory products other than FxFactory Pro (e.g. the "idustrial revolution Volumetrix" commercial plug-ins). The registration window only appears when no products based on FxFactory have ever been registered on the system. In this case, to register FxFactory Pro click the "Upgrade to Pro" button in the Plug-In Management window:

The Upgrade registration window will appear:

Click the "Upgrade" button to jump to the Upgrade registration form:

As for the previous method, enter the registration code that was supplied to you and click the "Upgrade" button to complete the registration process.

Do I need to install FxFactory to use third-party plug-ins?

Yes. Please download and install FxFactory (which is free) before you attempt to install and use any FxPacks based on its technology.

Do I need to purchase FxFactory Pro to use third-party plug-ins?

No. A separate purchase is not required. As long as FxFactory (which is free) is installed, you can install commercial and free plug-ins independently.

Where is the FxFactory user manual?

Once installation is complete, help is available by launching the FxFactory application (located in the Applications folder on your startup disk), and choosing the "FxFactory Help" command under the "Help" menu:

Where do I find the Generators in Final Cut Pro?

In Final Cut Pro, generators can be accessed either from the Effects tab of the Browser or from the various submenus of the Generator pop-up menu in the Viewer. This pop-up menu is available when the Video or Audio tab is displayed in the Viewer. When you choose a generator, it appears in the Video tab of the Viewer. Drag it over the location on your timeline where you would like the generator track to be created.

To create a generator and add it to a sequence:

Click the Video tab in the Viewer, then choose a generator from the Generator pop-up menu.
