Loosely simulates the effects of chromatic aberration on the source image, by applying distortions and blurring on each channel and selectively blending the distorted color information back with the original one. The distortions affect a given oval mask with customizable aspect ratio and softness, allowing the filter to mimic lens shapes or more simply to create interesting vignettes.
This effect is computationally very intensive. The most powerful graphics cards are recommended when working with HD-sized frames in order to maintain interactive performance.
Effect Parameters
Presets
Presets contain a snapshot of the plug-in parameters. The Presets control lets you choose among one of the presets built into the plug-in, save current parameter values to a preset file, or load an existing preset file from disk.
A preset file saved to disk via the "Save As" button can be loaded from another instance of the same plug-in by clicking the "Open" button. Presets generated in one host can also be loaded from the same plug-in when used in a different host.
Center
The center of the oval mask that defines the boundaries of the distortion.
Blur Amount
Controls the amount of blurring applied to the region of the effect affected by the distortion. Depending on the values of other parameters, the filter may be blurring only the inside or outside of a defined oval mask, or the entire image.
Blur Type
Controls whether a Gaussian or Zoom blur is used by the filter.
Blur Entire Image
Controls whether the entire image is blurred, ignoring the boundaries defined by the oval mask.
Mask Radius
The radius of the oval mask that defines the region of interest of the effect. The distortion affects the inside or outside of this region, according to the values of other parameters.
Mask Softness
Controls the softness of the border between the inside and outside regions of the oval mask.
Mask Aspect
Controls the aspect ratio of the oval region. An aspect ratio of 1.0 specifies a circumference.
Show Mask
Enable this parameter to view the current oval region instead of the image generated by the effect. This option is very useful in setting up the effect.
Invert Mask
Controls whether the distortion affects the inside or outside of the oval region defined by the "Center", "Mask Radius" and "Mask Softness" parameters.
Push Out
Controls a secondary bump distortion applied to the image. This parameter may help simulate the natural shape of a lens.
Red/Green/Blue Scale X/Y
These parameters control the scaling factor of the red, green and blue channels in the distorted image.
Red/Green/Blue Angle
Controls the angle of the red, green and blue channels in the distorted image.
Red/Green/Blue Offset X/Y
These parameters control the offset (in pixels) of the red, green and blue channels in the distorted image.
Color Space
This parameter allows you to choose a working color space for the effect. When the “Linear” option is selected, the plug-in will convert all color values to a non-gamma-corrected format. When the “Uncorrected” option is selected, the color values supplied by the host will be used directly, without conversion. It may help to choose “Uncorrected” when dealing with smooth gradients or vector-art backgrounds, or if you have already applied gamma correction to your source media in a previous step of your workflow.
